The three most prominent Arab families in Singapore are commonly regarded to be the Aljunied family, the Alsagoff family and the Alkaff family. Originating from Hadhramaut in Yemen, wealthy Hadhrami Arab businessmen migrated to Southeast Asia due to infighting in their country. One of the countries they migrated to was Singapore, which was being established by Raffles as a trading port. They settled in this country and expanded their business, becoming affluent spice and goods traders.
